instructor, developer Bruce Karon, a former Pima Community College lecturer and
developer of local industrial properties, died yesterday of illnesses related
to AIDS. He was 48. Karon, who was born July 15, 1946, in Minneapolis, moved
to Arizona in 1958 with his family. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1968 and
earned a master's degree in education from the University of Arizona. Karon taught at the American School in Managua, Nicaragua,
in the early 1970s. In 1980, Karon returned to Tucson to start Karon Brothers
International, a family investment business, with his two brothers. He recently moved downtown to Tucson's El Presidio
National Historic District, where he renovated the 1870s McCleary House, one
of the city's oldest surviving adobe homes. Karon is survived by his companion, Monty Jones; brothers
Richard of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Paul of Tucson; sister Gail Palchikoff
of Verdi, Calif.; and by seven nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Evergreen
Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road, with burial to follow. Donations in Karon's
